Tyler DeVigal
Cello
Tyler DeVigal received his early musical training at the Crowden School and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College. He then attended Stanford University, where he earned his B.A. in Human Biology, with a concentration on mental illness in the arts, initially intending to study medicine. Realizing that the cello was his true passion, DeVigal decided to pursue music and went on to earn his M.M. at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Since then, he has felt incredibly fortunate to be performing and teaching in his native Bay Area.
In addition to the Santa Rosa Symphony, DeVigal frequently plays with Symphony San Jose, San Jose Chamber Orchestra, Opera San Jose, and the Modesto Symphony. Outside of the traditional repertoire, DeVigal is the cellist of the Grammy-nominated crossover string quartet, Quartet San Francisco, whose performances have brought him to SF Jazz, Yoshi’s Oakland, and the Sag Harbor American Music Festival. Alongside his wife, violist Nao Kubota, he co-directs the Emerging Artists Program at the Mendocino Music Festival.
DeVigal is on faculty at the Crowden School, where he feels honored to pass on the joy of chamber music to the next generation of young musicians. His mentors and teachers include Bonnie Hampton, Robert DeMaine, Mark Kosower, Stephen Harrison, and Milly Rosner.
